Karl Ziegler was a chemist, a Nobel laureate, a passionate art collector, and Director at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung from 1943 until 1969. His work had a lasting impact on the development of the institute. The Karl Ziegler Lecture Series, initiated in 1978, honors outstanding scientists.

From May 27 - 28, 2026 Prof. Dr. Satoshi Maeda from the Institute for Chemical Reaction Design and Discovery (ICReDD) from Hokkaido University will visit the Mülheim institute as Karl Ziegler guest professor.

Professor Maeda is one of the leading researchers in theoretical and organic chemistry. The Karl Ziegler Guest-Professorship 2026 will be bestowed upon him for his groundbreaking development of automated methods for the exploration of complex chemical reaction networks.
