Description

Over the past few years, the Helmholtz Information & Data Science Framework has been established to accelerate interdisciplinary research and provide sustainable, data-driven solutions. This framework brings together resources from 18 research centers, fostering a collaborative environment that combines key competences in information and data science.

At the heart of the framework are five platforms, each designed to address specific challenges and provide digital solutions. Helmholtz AI catalyzes applied AI solutions, promoting collaboration and accessibility to resources and expertise across the association. Helmholtz Federated IT Services (HIFIS) empowers researchers with modular, federated digital services, facilitating integrated scientific workflows and sustainable research software engineering. The Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC) helps turning FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data into reality, providing comprehensive services and tools for efficient metadata handling. Helmholtz Imaging leverages distributed expertise in digital imaging, offering consulting services, image processing and management tools, and knowledge sharing across research fields. Finally, the Helmholtz Information and Data Science Academy (HIDA) supports the development of knowledge and expertise in information and data science, coordinating training programs and exchange initiatives.

These platforms act as enablers, connecting centers and research areas by providing services, advice, and support in information and data science. Researchers can accelerate their work, foster collaboration, and tackle complex challenges in a more efficient and effective manner, while centers can join resources and efficiently support their communities.

In this presentation, we will provide an overview of the scope and recent progresses of these platforms, highlighting their achievements and future plans in supporting data-driven research excellence within the Helmholtz Association.
