Abstract: Intercalibration between energetic particle instruments BERM onboard BepiColombo and EPD aboard Solar Orbiter The BepiColombo Environmental Radiation Monitor (BERM) aboard the BepiColombo mission en route to Mercury, and the Energetic Particle Detector (EPD) on Solar Orbited are measuring the radiation environment in the inner solar system. Three Solar Energetic Particle (SEP) events,2021-07-15, 2022-07-23, and 2023-03-13, were observed simultaneously by both missions when they were relatively well connected magnetically, offering valuable opportunities for comparative analysis and intercalibration. We analysed the interplanetary context of each event using solar wind plasma and magnetic field data. Proton anisotropies from Solar Orbiter were used to identify isotropic intervals during the decay phase, enabling the derivation of representative proton spectra. These spectra were fitted and compared with BERM measurements to obtain intercalibration factors. The results show strong consistency between instruments. For the 2.15 MeV and 6.85 MeV proton channels, calibration factors of 0.95±0.10 and 1.02±0.30 were obtained, corresponding to deviations of only 5% and 2%. This demonstrates that BERM and EPD provide consistent SEP measurements and shows that planetary missions can contribute to heliophysics.
