DESCRIPTION:What can the most extreme environments in the Universe teach u
s about the laws of nature? And how do we investigate objects that are mil
lions or billions of light-years away?\nIn this workshop we plan to give a
n exciting introduction to astroparticle physics\, and how we detect some
of the most energetic particles\, with energies far outside the range of w
hat we can produce on earth. \nIn this workshop we will take you from the
acceleration of particles to the detection of gamma rays\, and introduce
you to the physics behind some of the most energetic phenomena in the univ
erse. Through interactive lectures\, practical exercises and hands-on data
analysis\, we will give you insights into how astrophysicists turn telesc
ope images into scientific discoveries.\nAs highlight of the workshop we w
ill take you to get a closer look at the High Energy Stereoscopic System (
H.E.S.S.)\, one of the leading gamma-ray observatories in the world\, loca
ted in Namibia. \nNo previous experience in gamma-ray astronomy is requir
ed! Whether you study physics\, mathematics\, computer science or a relate
d natural science subject\, you will have the opportunity to explore how y
our knowledge and skills can contribute to modern astrophysical research.\
nBut science is about more than data and discoveries. It is also about peo
ple\, perspectives and collaboration. Throughout the workshop\, we will ex
change experiences of studying and working in science\, discuss academic a
nd career opportunities\, and explore what it means to build international
research collaborations. \nWe also want to make space for cultural excha
nge. If you participate in this workshop you will have the opportunity to
give a short 15-minute presentation about your cultural background\, tradi
tions\, home region\, heritage or what science means to you. This is entir
ely optional though: you are welcome to take part\, but there is absolutel
y no obligation to give a presentation. We do hope that many of you would
like to participate to to help us learn from one another\, discover new pe
rspectives and build connections beyond our shared interest in science.\nW
hat can you look forward to?\n\n\nDiscover the extreme Universe: Learn abo
ut radiation\, particle acceleration\, gamma rays and the astrophysical ob
jects that produce them.\n\n\nGet hands-on with real science: Explore astr
ophysical data\, learn analysis techniques and work together to investigat
e the nature of an unidentified cosmic source.\n\n\nVisit H.E.S.S.: See th
e telescope array up close and discover how a major international observat
ory operates.\n\n\nExplore scientific careers: Discuss life as a researche
r\, develop your scientific communication skills and learn about opportuni
ties for further study and international collaboration.\n\n\nShare knowled
ge and perspectives: Meet students and researchers from different backgrou
nds\, exchange cultural experiences and discover how different perspective
s can enrich science.\n\n\nOur goal is to create a space where curiosity m
atters more than prior experience\, questions are always welcome\, and eve
ryone has something to contribute.\nIf this has made you curious come join
us for this workshop\, bring your ideas\, and register following the menu
on the left. \nThere is no fee for participation.\n\nhttps://plan.events
