DESCRIPTION:Hardening the OME-Zarr Support in Bioimaging Software\n📍 Dr
 esden\, Germany  📅 September 7–11\, 2026  🤝 Supported by the C
han Zuckerberg Initiative and German BioImaging\nJoin us for a week of col
 laborative development\, interoperability-focused hackathon and hands-on t
raining centered around OME-Zarr\, the emerging standard for scalable\, cl
 oud-ready bioimaging data.\n \nWhy this Hackathon?\nThe bioimaging commun
ity is increasingly converging on OME-Zarr as a standard for storing\, sha
ring\, and visualizing imaging data.\nWhile some tools already provide str
ong support\, others are still in the early stages of adoption. This event
is designed to bring together developers\, maintainers\, and data steward
s to:\n·       improve interoperability between Java and Python eco
systems\n·       benchmark and validate implementations against the
  specification\n·       accelerate OME-Zarr adoption in Java-based
tools\n·       ensure tools can exchange data seamlessly\n·
Strong focus on Java based tools\n·       Adoption of the OM
E-Zarr specification into tools - not targeted to advance the standard (if
you are up to this\, we recommend the hackathon at University of Zurich i
n November 2026)\nWe especially encourage participation from projects that
are in early stages of OME-Zarr adoption and would benefit from focused i
mplementation time and direct exchange with experts.\n \nWho Should Atten
d?\nThis event is primarily aimed at:\n·       Java developers inte
grating OME-Zarr into applications\n·       Python developers integ
rating OME-Zarr into applications\n·       Tool maintainers interes
ted in standards compliance and compatibility\n·       Researchers
and infrastructure providers working with imaging data exchange\n \nWhat
Will We Do?\nDeveloper Hackathons\nE.g. integrate OME-Zarr into applicati
ons\, improve compatibility with the latest specification\, implement read
ing / writing support\, test interoperability across tools\nInteroperabili
ty & Compatibility Sprint\nImprove OME-Zarr exchange capabilities for pop
 ular tools (such as e.g. FIJI\, ICY\, QuPath\, TrackMate/Mastodon\, MoBIE\
 , Labkit\, webKnossos\, BigDataViewer\, ome-zarr-py\, ngff-zarr)\nHow-to-S
essions\nLearn to e.g. store imaging data in OME-Zarr\, read and write OME
-Zarr datasets\, display OME-Zarr data in Fiji and related tools\n \nTrav
el Support Available\nWe have limited travel support available for selecte
d participants.\nAccepted applicants may receive a travel grant in the for
m of a fixed budget intended to cover reasonable expenses for travel\, acc
ommodation\, and meals during the event.\nAccomodation will be available i
 n a nearby hotel.\n \nYour Motivation\nIf you are interested in particpat
ing in the event\, please send a short statement what will be your motivat
ion and what you would like to work on during the event. \n \nWe’d lov
e to have you in Dresden. Come help shape the future of interoperable bioi
 maging data.\n \n \nFunding Statement\n \nThis hackathon receives suppo
rt from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative DAF\, an advised fund of Silicon Va
 lley Community Foundation (grant number 2024-342803).\n \n  \n \n \n
