Founded in 1976 by Pierre Boulez the Ensemble intercontemporain is now a leading force in contemporary music. Based at the Philharmonie de Paris and funded by the French Ministry of Culture and the City of Paris, the ensemble commissions and performs new works and collaborates with composers to explore music, dance, theatre, film and the visual arts. In partnership with IRCAM, which was also founded by Boulez, the ensemble continues to develop synthetic sound production.
For the centenary of Boulez's birth in 2025, the ensemble opens the celebrations in Paris, followed by Tokyo and the Dresden Festival of Contemporary Music. In Dresden, they will present solo works by Boulez, including Dialogue de l'ombre double, a theatrical clarinet piece that combines live performance with electro-acoustic soundscapes. The BOULEZ 100 concert is not only their Dresden debut, but also a further collaboration between IRCAM and the festival, following the premiere of Chaya Czernowin's Poetica in 2024.
